About the Book
Here’s the problem with energy healing: it only seems to work if you can feel energy. And most of us can’t.
Hugh Comerford can’t either. He spent 25 years watching a remarkable energy healer do things that were undeniably real and completely unrepeatable — because every technique depended on a level of energetic sensitivity that Hugh, and most ordinary people, simply don’t have. The Hümmo Method is what grew out of his long, stubborn, occasionally absurd attempt to solve that problem.
The book follows the path that made the method possible. Six movements. All of them true.
Part I
Collapse
In his late twenties, Hugh had a panic attack in a bank. That was the beginning. What followed was five years of agoraphobia, a shitty apartment in Montreal, and the kind of slow-motion unraveling that takes everything: agency, dignity, the ability to trust your own perceptions. This section doesn’t skip the dark parts. It’s the foundation everything else is built on.
Part II
Emergence
A chapter in an Anthony Robbins book introduced Hugh to NLP — Neurolinguistic Programming — and that, eventually, was the key out of the apartment and back into the world. Emergence traces the long, unglamorous, occasionally funny road from housebound to functional, and explains why NLP became the intellectual framework for everything that followed.
Part III
Encounter
Before Denis, there was a bartender in a Montreal brewpub who used the word “grounded” constantly and couldn’t define it. Before that, there was a chance encounter with an energy healer whose hands on Hugh’s shoulders put him through the floor in three minutes. This section is where the world of energy healing enters the story — not with fanfare, but with a slow accumulation of experiences that didn’t have words yet.
Part IV
Modelling
Denis is a former RCMP officer turned energy healer whose abilities are extraordinary and, for a dull normal like Hugh, infuriatingly impossible to replicate. Modelling is the decade Hugh spent trying anyway. It’s the section where NLP earns its place in the method — because if you can’t feel what someone is doing, you find a way to reverse-engineer it. This is where that reverse-engineering begins.
Part V
Building
Before the method can exist, three things have to come together: breathwork, presence, and the underlying architecture that makes both of them more than just techniques. Building is the conceptual engine room of the book — where the pieces are laid out clearly, the presuppositions are examined honestly, and the reader gets the foundation they’ll need for everything that follows.
Part VI
Expansion
This is where it all lands. The complete method: a replicable, step-by-step process for doing energy healing on yourself without being able to feel energy. The protocols, the Hümmodalities, the sequence, and the applications — anxiety, grief, physical pain, chronic illness, creativity. Written for dull normals, by a dull normal, with no unicorns required.
